This year has had all of its ups and downs.
We have a new Troop scouter – Chris de Jager, aka Bobcat – who has been an ATS at Rivertrail for many years now. We have had another lockdown or 2 during scouting where we could not go to the hall and enjoy outdoor scouting. We have been trying our best to get the new website and and running and hopefully this will happen any day now and we are also working on our newsletters now as well.
In the next couple of weeks we will be sending out some very important information for everyone in the Troop so please look out for these notices in our next newsletters.
We wish to welcome Samuel and his wife Sibongile. They are our new grounds and hall caretakers and have been invaluable this year in keeping our hall and the grounds clean.
All of our Scouters have been doing their utmost best this year to keep our Scouts going with most of our activities happening outdoors. Without the Scouters and their hard work and enthusiasm, we would not have been able to have such a great year.
There will be a Full Uniform Scouts Meeting this Friday 22 October at the Hall.
Please can all the Scouts be at the hall by 18:20 as we are having a going up ceremony of Cubs coming up to Scouts. We are also then going to be investing 2 new Scouts as well on Friday evening.
A very special guest, Craig Hudson, has been invited to come and give a talk on Friday evening to the Scouts along with doing some pioneering with the Scouts. There is also another special surprise for the Scouts on Friday evening that they DO NOT want to miss out on so ensure that you are all there.
We will end our evening at 21:00.
Our senior Scouts had a fantastic hike at Stonechat Resort in Mpumalanga over the weekend 2 to 3 October. They really had such a blast just being seniors and hiking and camping. We certainly hope to do something like this very soon again.
On the weekend 8 to 9 October we had the Cub Link Camp with the help of our PL’s and APL’s. This was a huge success as we had 9 Cubs attend Link Camp.
On 15 to 17 October our Scouts took part in a Springbok Camp with Simon Pienaar from Bryanston Scout Group. Along with this camp for the weekend, everything was combined with JOTA (Jamboree on the air)/JOTI (Jamboree on the internet) and this was a good success. Everyone had an amazing time and all of our Scouts who attended had an amazing time. Some of our Scouts had huge fun on the HAM Radios while others had an amazing time on JOTI.
We are in the process of finalizing the date for our AGM this year and as soon as we have it we will inform you. There is a Bring and Braai after the AGM so we encourage you all to please join us this year and we can have a good time and get to know our scouting families.
Covid regulations require that we screen everyone visiting the Scout Hall and keep a register. We are using goScan to facillitate this process.
From your mobile device please scan the QR code at the hall and complete the questions.
Or complete the scan at home using http://s.goscan.co.za/DDPpa (please do shortly before arriving so that your time reflects when you were present)
Please wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
Please clearly label all personal belongings. Check that the labels have not faded or fallen off.
Parents are encouraged to regularly login into Scouts Digital and view the Parents Dashboard. Login via Akela for cubs or Bobcat for Scouts and they will get help for you. Some attendance records or personal information may not be correct – please let us know. Together we can make Scouts Digital the enabling system it is designed to be!
Cubs to wear full cub uniform.
Scouts for the duration of Covid restrictions to wear Camp Uniform (including cap and scarf) and suitable jeans or shorts.
Rivertrail golf shirts and caps can be purchased from Kim before or after cubs/ scouts. ( ie. not during).
